Opera 2016

On 8th and 9th July 2016 we hosted two productions by Diva Opera - Mozart's Così fan tutte and Donizetti's Don Pasquale in aid of Gynaecological Cancer Fund.

Both evenings were fine and relatively warm with the sun making a short appearance.   About 130 people came to each event and enjoyed drinks (champagne supplied by Vinotopia in Tetbury and gin cocktails supplied by the Cotswold Distillery) together with delicious canapés. The performances were staged in an outdoor amphitheatre under a large waterproof canopy.

Both operas were performed by a small number of exceptionally talented singers (six for Cosi fan tutti and five for Don Pasquale) and were accompanied by the incredibly talented Bryan Evans on the piano. The performances were intimate and great fun. Each lasted about 90 minutes and was followed by dinner in the Orangery, a summer buffet in the Old Stables or a picnic in the picnic tents. There was a raffle and a silent auction which together with generous donations and sponsorship helped raise about £10,000 for Gynaecological Cancer Fund over the course of the two evenings.

Next year the operas will take place on Friday 7th and Saturday 8th July 2017. If you would like to come please contact wendy@whichfordhouse.co.uk to be put on the mailing list.

Some quotes from people who came....

"what a wonderful evening it was!  So beautifully organised - everyone was so kind and helpful, delicious drinks before the performance, and the opera itself was a triumph..."

"We both really enjoyed the evening - splendid performance in a magical setting and the arrangements were first class."

"The opera evening was truly magical, the setting in your glorious garden and home was perfection itself - and despite our inclement weather made us realise that England is such a special place!"

"Thanks for the most perfect night at Don Pasquale.  I absolutely loved it."
